It is preferable to always update a Growatt system during installation. This ensures that the different components work well together and that the latest available features are present. Updates can be done locally via the ShineTools app or remotely via the Growatt OSS portal.
There are several ways to perform an update. In this article, we will guide you step by step through the two most commonly used options:
- local update via the ShineTools app;
- remote update via the Growatt OSS portal.
Good to know: menu names and buttons may change after an update of the app or portal. Therefore, always check whether you are using the most recent version of the Growatt software and documentation.
Growatt local update via the ShineTools app
Are you on-site at the installation? Then you can update the system locally via the ShineTools app.
Step 1: log in with your installer account
- Open the ShineTools app and log in with your installer account.
Having trouble logging in with your installer code? In some cases, you need to add 001 to your installer code.
Step 2: scan the data logger
In the app, go to Commission. Here you can scan the QR code on the data logger.
Via Manual Selection you can see which data loggers are compatible with the ShineTools app.
Step 3: check the software version
Next, go to Settings. Here you will find the current software version of the connected devices.
If a suitable update is available, you can perform it from this menu.
You can also directly perform the commissioning of the Growatt system via the ShineTools app. We recommend this because you can then check, configure, and update the system locally if necessary.
4blue tip: preferably perform the update before you fully hand over the installation. This way you can immediately check whether all components communicate correctly with each other.
Growatt remote update via the OSS portal
Is the system already installed and online? Then you can send a remote update via the Growatt OSS portal.
Step 1: log in to the OSS portal
Go to: https://oss.growatt.com/
Log in with your installer account.
Step 2: open the Update Management System
Navigate to:
- Monitoring & Management
- Update Management System
- Growatt Server – update.growatt.com
Step 3: open Device Update
Then go to:
- Firmware Update
- Device Update
Step 4: enter a serial number
Enter the serial number of one of the devices within the relevant plant.
It does not matter which device you select. After entering the serial number, all linked devices at that location will be displayed.
Step 5: send the update
Under Operations you can send a firmware update per device.
Before starting the update, check that the signal is strong. This will ensure a faster update.
Step 6: follow the progress
Want to view the progress of the update? Slide the grey bar to the right. The current status of the update will be displayed here.
Sometimes an update is not executed immediately. In that case, you may need to send the update multiple times before it is successful.
Preferably do not manually interrupt the power supply or internet connection of the system during the update process.
Unable to update Growatt remotely?
A remote update can sometimes fail or may not be possible with older versions. There can be various reasons for this.
What to do:
- Send the update again; sometimes it needs to be sent a few times
- Check the internet connection/connection of the data logger.
- The existing software is too old; inverters installed a long time ago or still using an older data logger do not yet have the functionality to update online.
If it does not work, you can always resort to an update via USB stick.
Via USB stick
4blue or Growatt provides the firmware files.
-
You put the files on a FAT32-formatted USB stick.
USB stick maximum 32GB
You insert the USB into the USB port of the inverter.
Follow the instructions on the inverter display to start the update.
- During the update, the inverter “Programming” will be shown on the display. When the update has been successfully completed, the inverter will automatically reconnect and return to the normal operation screen. If the update has failed, “Fail” will appear on the display.
