Dynamic trading with your Growatt battery? Here’s how to set it up!

With Smart Scheduling Mode, also called Smart, a Growatt APX battery can automatically respond to dynamic energy prices. The feature is free, but your customer will need a dynamic energy contract for this.

In this article, we explain step by step how to set up Smart.

What is Smart Scheduling Mode?

Smart Scheduling Mode is a smart addition for Growatt APX batteries. The software determines when it is financially advantageous to charge or discharge the battery.

This way, your customer can directly benefit from fluctuating energy prices.

1. Update the software to the latest version. Once all products are up to date, the Smart function will appear in the customer portal.

2. Choose the correct settings:
   1. Smart mode: 
      1. In Automatic, the software decides when it is favourable to charge or discharge the battery.
      2. In Manual, you set from which price signals the system should charge or discharge.
   2. Export Limit: 
      1. If you want to prevent electricity from being fed back into the grid, enable Set Export Limit.
   3. Advanced settings of power export:
      1. Here you decide whether the solar panels and battery are allowed to feed electricity back into the grid.
   4. Energy Balance; 
      1. Off: The system tries to achieve as much profit as possible through energy trading.
      2. On: Own consumption is prioritised. The battery can still discharge during favourable price differences, but self-consumption takes precedence.

Under most settings in the portal you will find a brief explanation. This way you can always review what a function does exactly.

• Then select the correct Region and Data Source.
  • These settings may differ per country. Therefore, choose the settings indicated for the Netherlands in the Growatt portal.

• Fill in the Rate Settings:
  • between which dates Smart should be active;
  • which import tariff applies;
  • which export tariff applies.

These amounts are added on top of the base dynamic energy price.

In the Netherlands, many energy suppliers charge additional import costs of approximately €0.02 to €0.04 per kWh. In addition, you pay energy tax. Always check the current rates of your customer’s energy supplier before entering these values.
