The SmartLogger 3000 is the central brain of Huawei installations. Via RS485 it connects inverters with each other and with the cloud. In addition, thanks to the SmartLogger, you can read external EMI- (Environmental Monitoring Instrument) and Smart Power meters, allowing you to set statistical or dynamic power control directly. When the SmartLogger is used with RS485 or MBUS, no Smart dongle is required on the installation.
This article helps you choose the right model at a glance and uses references to the SmartLogger 3000 User Manual collected by our technical support.
2. The three EU variants in detail
| Feature | A01EU | A03EU | B02EU | C |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hardware version | A | A | B | |
| Max. inverters | 80 | 80 | 150 | |
| SFP (fibre optic) | ❌ No | ❌ No | ✅ Yes (2 ports) | |
| 4G modem present | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes | ❌ No | |
| MBUS present | ❌ No | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes | |
| Typical consumption | 8 W | 8 W | 9 W | |
| Use | Small/medium systems with 4G backup, without MBUS | Small/medium systems with 4G and MBUS | Large systems with fibre optic and MBUS, without 4G | For systems with the Luna2000-215kWh |
What is MBUS and when do you use it?
MBUS is a communication protocol that works via the power cables – similar to PLC. This means no extra data cable is needed between inverter and smartlogger. Ideal when cabling is difficult.
No data cable possible? Then choose the A03 or B02.
Able to pull a cable? Then the A01EU is the most logical and cost-effective choice.
Note: MBUS loggers are often somewhat more expensive but save time in complex installations.

3. Selection guide
-
Do you need 4G fallback but no MBUS?
→ Choose A01EU. -
Do you want both 4G and MBUS within 80 inverters?
→ Choose A03EU. -
Do you need to manage more than 80 inverters or use fibre optic?
→ Choose B02EU.
4. How to read the type code (User Manual § 2.1.1, pp. 9-10)
| Position | Meaning | Values |
|
1st character (A/B)
|
Hardware platform | A = no fibre optic ports, max. 80 inverters |
| B = 2× SFP port, max. 150 inverters | ||
| 2nd-3rd character (00–03) | Extra functions | 00 = no 4G, no MBUS |
| 01 = 4G, no MBUS | ||
| 02 = MBUS, no 4G | ||
| 03 = 4G + MBUS | ||
| 4th character (EU) | Region-specific | European firmware |
Tip: remember ‘A = 80’ and ‘B = 150’. Then add the options 4G and/or MBUS and you immediately know which logger you have.
5. Connection and configuration tips
- RS485 loop: use well-shielded cable and connect the terminators correctly.
- MBUS connection (A03EU/B02EU): follow exactly § 4.1.4 for connecting the meter.
- 4G antenna (A01EU/A03EU): mount the supplied antenna outside the metal housing for optimal reception (§ 4.1.11).
- Static vs. dynamic power control: combine the SmartLogger with a calibrated smart power meter for accurate export limiting.
