What do you need for a complete configuration of the Enphase Energy Router?

For a complete installation of the Enphase Energy Router, there are two variants: the standard IQ Energy Router and the extended IQ Energy Router+. The difference? You will discover that and much more in this article.

What is the Enphase Energy Router?

The Enphase Energy Router is a smart switching component within the Enphase Energy Management system. It allows you to control external consumers, such as a heat pump and charging station, within the Enphase domain without monthly fees.

There are two variants:

• IQ Energy Router: for connection with non-Enphase EV chargers

• IQ Energy Router+: for connection with both EV chargers and heat pumps via SG-ready contact

• IQ Energy Router+ (for electric boiler 1- or 3-phase): for connection with both EV chargers and electric boiler.

Overview of required components per variant

Note: The IQ Gateway (Metered) with current transformers is always necessary to support the operation of the Energy Router.

When to choose which variant?

IQ Energy Router

Use this if you want to smartly control an external EV charger (i.e. not an Enphase charging station), for example to store surplus solar energy.

IQ Energy Router+

Use this if you also want to connect a heat pump with SG-ready contact or electric boiler to the system, alongside your EV charger.

• Compatible heat pumps: See this compatibility list

  • If the heat pump is not on this list but does have an SG-Ready contact, installation is still possible but Enphase has not yet created a manual for it.

Frequently asked question: Do I need a separate Energy Meter and relay?

With the IQ Energy Router+, the Energy Meter and the SG-ready relay (or simply relay) are included in the delivery. For the electric boiler, it is important to check whether a power relay is built into the boiler or if it still needs to be added.
With the IQ Energy Router, these components are not included and also not necessary.

The IQ Gateway (Metered) with current transformers is essential in both cases, as it enables real-time monitoring and energy management within the Enphase ecosystem.
